‘Scorched by his Fire’ by Reet Singh - Book review

‘Scorched by his Fire’ by Reet Singh is set in Mauritius and starts off as a typical Indian family drama – uncle wants niece to meet a ‘nice young man’ as she’s of a marriageable age. Niece rebels and uncle doesn't relent, but here the story takes a turn from the usual.

Through a quirk of fate and to escape her uncle’s badgering, Mita finds herself –in Tanay’s words – ‘plighted to the troth’. Tanay thinks she’s a ‘scarlet woman’, ‘home-wrecker’, and a ‘bewilderingly sexy chameleon’! Mita, on her part, ‘detested’ him for disrupting her life.

The story is filled with humorous dialogues:-
• “I wasn't staring. I was thinking.” She said.
“Well, my apologies if my face invaded your thinking space. I’d remove it for your convenience, except that you don’t want a faceless boyfriend, do you?

• Mita said sheepishly, “But if I keep digging into the culinary wonders on offer, there’ll be two of me going back home.”
Ah what a double delight that would be! He thought.

• She couldn’t tie the choli strings and asked Tanay for help.
“I can’t do this myself. Can you tie me up?”
“Happily,” he quipped, moving towards her with a menacing expression. “Where’s the rope?”

The discovery of a letter leads her to India with Tanay on her tail. The landmarks of Delhi and Kolkata are well depicted. The dialogue delivery advances the plot which is full of action.

Superbly written…a must-read for all lovers of romance.
